| Management Stephen Long President and CEO Steve
would like to see all associations have the opportunity to achieve their
potential in what is becoming an Internet driven society. Throughout his
years of experience working for and consulting to associations he has also
witnessed the impact that the Internet can have for those organizations
that recognize its value and effectively introduce it into their organizational
framework. Following a period of employment as Director of Operations and
Business Development for Metame.com Inc., an Internet technology company,
he is pleased to be able to apply his knowledge of the Internet and association
sectors with Leverus Inc.In his position with Metame.com Steve participated in strategic planning for a cross section of business operations and provided management for the company across functional divisions. Previously, he was President of SLC & Associates, a private consulting firm representing the interests of large industrial organizations and their relationship with the Canadian government. As a consultant to the association sector Steve often focussed on using economic and public policy analysis to develop information-based strategies to enhance the international competitiveness of Canadian industry. He has completed many projects for industry associations that have examined sectoral structure, change factors and competitiveness constraints. These have included the examination of human resource needs, market development opportunities and comparative analyses of the regulatory environment for specific industry sub-sectors. He has also been a senior analyst for a leading national association. Steve holds an MA in Economics and a Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from Carleton University. LeClair is at the forefront of Canada's consulting community in the field
of organizational analysis and strategic planning for not-for-profit organizations
and industry associations. Over the last decade, he has worked for over
100 organizations from all across Canada. He has pioneered techniques for
organizational benchmarking which have systematically lead to more representative
governance, enhanced government relations, effective management and improved
member service delivery. Chris is the author of the first comprehensive
study of Canadian industry associations, as compared with counterparts in
Canada's major trading partner nations. Identifying best practices and service
delivery models, this inaugural study represented the starting point for
the re-engineering of both structure and service orientation of many of
Canada's largest business sectoral organizations. In 1997, he was asked
by Industry Canada to update the results of his extensive research, much
of which has been embraced by major national industry associations as the
basis for organizational reform.In addition to his consulting work, Chris is a regular speaker at association Annual Meetings and Conferences and is a frequent contributor to Association Magazine. Prior to entering the consulting field, Chris worked for a national association in the area of membership recruitment and government relations. Chris holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bishop's University and a Master of Arts in Political Science from McMaster University. Robert Long Chief Net Architect Robert
is a gen-Xer who lives with technology and brings it to wherever he goes.
He has spent several years in IT departments as a senior designer before
moving on to new challenges. As a training consultant Robert was a pioneer
in 1994 in bringing training on-line to the Internet. As community relations
manager he brought technology in the form of on-line games to help reach
youth, award winning CD-ROM virtual tours and interactive WWW sites for
employees and the public. He has a passion for technology and shared it
for 6 years as a trainer with Algonquin College. He has sat on a variety
of boards and committees in his career involving different groups including
the Conference Board of Canada, Ontario Mathematics Curriculum Writing Team,
Software Human Resources Council, Ottawa Center for Research and Innovation,
and Ottawa Carleton Catholic School Board.Robert now brings his technology expertise to the world of the NPOs and brings five years experience working with community-based organizations and educational institutions. Verma is Director of IC Development for ATI Technologies Inc., the world’s largest supplier of 3D graphics and multimedia technology. As Director of IC Development he is leading the company in exploring innovative approaches to meet the challenges of sub-micron designs for the future. He started his career at Bell Northern Research, a branch of Northern Telecom after obtaining his Bachelor’s of Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Ottawa, Canada in 1989. Advisory Board Shail Paliwal Advisory Board Member Mr. Paliwal is a Chartered Accountant with eleven years experience working primarily in the technology sector, and is currently part of the Finance group at PMC-Sierra, Inc. PMC-Sierra is a world leader in providing customers with telecommunications network IC solutions. To date in his current role, he has been involved in completing three acquisitions by PMC worth well over US$ 800M. Mr. Paliwal has also been involved in Investor Relations activities with PMC, representing the company at analyst conferences. Previously Mr. Paliwal was the Director of Finance at Extreme Packet Devices. Extreme was a fabless semiconductor company developing and marketing high speed networking silicon to network infrastructure OEMs. Mr. Paliwal completed the acquisition of Extreme by PMC-Sierra for US$ 415M; previously he raised several million dollars of equity investment used to finance the ongoing operations of Extreme and provided the financial leadership needed to allow the company to grow from 10 to 62 employees in eight months. Mr. Paliwal's responsibilities included managing the financial and administrative aspects of Extreme, including human resources and facilities. Prior to joining Extreme Packet Devices Inc, Mr. Paliwal was Vice President, Operations and Chief Financial Officer at the Ottawa Centre for Research & Innovation (OCRI). OCRI serves the technology community in Ottawa by brokering partnerships between technology companies, government and education. Under his leadership OCRI's financial position improved dramatically, erasing an aggregate deficit and creating a healthy cash flow position. Mr. Paliwal provided the leadership needed to grow the organization from 20 to 65 employees and provided significant input into the development of both the long term strategic plans and the formulation of corporate objectives. At an operational level, Mr. Paliwal formulated organization wide internal operating policies and had assumed control of a significant part of the day-to-day operations, including handling human resource issues. Previous to OCRI, Mr. Paliwal, was Vice-President, Finance & Administration with the Trison Group of Ontario, a small group of private entrepreneurs. |
